4th of July

Hi everyone!  I hope you are all having a great week.  I feel guilty that today I still haven't changed out of my pj's yet.  Gotta love summer and just hanging out at home.  Tomorrow my son has x-rays to see if his thumb is broken and if he can lose his cast.  Crossing our fingers.  I really want to take them to the beach.

I finally finished my 4th of July bundle that I was working on.  To be honest, I wasn't going to do one, but I couldn't resist the cute clip art that I have from Nikki from Melonheadz.  I do have friends teaching summer school and I have read about some people who are teaching at year round schools, so hopefully this will be useful for someone! I also thought that it could be used for people who Home school their kids or for people who just want to work with their kiddos at home to prevent the summer slide.   You can find it here.  4th-of-July-Math-Literacy-Centers-More

There are 3 math and 3 reading centers.  There are also pencil decorations, flags to cut out and attach to a straw and crowns to wear on heads. 

 

 You will find a direction sheet like this for all 6 centers.  There are 3 math and 3 reading centers.

Find the missing number in the equation.

 

Compound Words

 

 Determine if the greater than, less than or equal to cards are true or false.

Cut the cards out and find its match.

Are you ready for some football?

I don't know about you...but even though the Vikings or the Packers are not in the Super Bowl this year...my kiddos are busy talking about who is going to win the Super Bowl game this year.  In my class, I will have my kids wear the colors of their favorite team the Patriots or the Giants.  We will then do some fun activities that I uploaded to my TPT store!

Fall Activities

I cannot believe it is fall already.  The first month of school has gone by so fast and we have had so much fun.  We are now starting to do many activities related to fall.  Our first big project was our DOWN, DOWN poem that we did.  We located OW words in the poem and then ripped pieces of paper to look like falling leaves.  We glued these around the poem.  The steps of what we did are listed below.

In this unit we will be learning about graphing, concepts about print, sentences, OW words, ABC order, punctuation marks, and syllables.

Bus Safety

Every year I worry that my first graders will get on the correct bus at the end of the day.  BUT I worry more that they will get home safely.  During the first weeks of school we discuss how to wait for the bus safely, ride the bus safely and get off the bus safely.  I worry that they won't look both ways before crossing the street, or that they will get hit by a car.  When I was younger, I had a cousin that was killed because he was hit by a car...so I want to teach each and every one of my kids the safest way to get to school.  You can check out the mini unit that I created on bus safety at my TpT store.

Syllable Sort

I am slowly learning about the Teachers Pay Teachers store and finally loaded my first activity.  I had hoped to upload a whole unit...but learned the hard way that I should have done all the activities in one document, so for now I am going to be uploading a few activities separate from each other.  Go to the link to check out my first syllable activity.  Each card has an apple word that has one or two syllables on it.  First graders will look at the word and decide if it has one or two syllables.  They will then place it on the correct mat and record the word on the recording sheet.
