I am a day late to share my 5 random things for the week...but for a good reason!!
1. After a long day of teaching on Friday...I ran a 5K. Well...almost 5K. It was called the Rave Run and it was a glow in the dark run. They had to shorten the course a little bit because it was at Valleyfair and it is opening weekend. They needed to get parts of the park ready. The run was soooo much fun! But, to be honest, parts of it was a nightmare. I really don't think they thought the over 10,000 people would show up for it. But they did. Parking was a nightmare. It took one of my friends who ran it almost an hour and a half to get out of the parking lot. The course was narrow...so...over 10,000 people running made for some slow running...very close to one another. Last year at this time, I would have NEVER imagined I would run a 5K. In August I ran my first one. Then I did one more in September and another one in October. I swore I would never do it again...as I have to walk a lot...my foot gets sore (I had bunion surgery last year and had to have another one because of complications after it). BUT...I did it...and am signed up for 2 more this summer. I guess there is truth to the saying, "Never Say Never". One day I hope to run the whole thing through...without walking.
2. I have some pretty awesome kiddos in my class with some pretty thoughtful parents. I was spoiled during Teacher Appreciation Week during the week. We had meals planned for us throughtout the week and I got some pretty special gifts from my kiddos. Here's my finished product of the gifts we gave to my sons' teachers.
4. On the 17th, first grade has Track and Field day. The kids each picks 3 event to participate in. We then end with a tug-of-war contest between the classes. Each class tie-dyes shirts. My class is yellow. This helps parents and the phy. ed teachers know who is from which class when there are 140 kids on the field. After tie-dying shirts, teachers bring them home and wash them. Well, yesterday we tie-dyed shirts. I brought them home and laid them on my deck to dry. Today my husband and I cut all the rubber bands off them. I let them dry a little longer. Because it was so windy out...they blew all over the deck. I am glad we found them all!
5. I have been living at the Dollar Tree these past few weeks. I get all the goodies for the end of the year there. I buy each kid a bucket and attach their bucket list to it. I fill it with bubbles, icees and other summery things I may find. I am sad the end of the end is so close! I love my class and will miss them next year.
Finally today, I went to a birthday party for my cousin. I had the most amazing cupcake! It had peanut butter frosting on the top with jelly filling in the middle. I just about died after taking the first bite. It tasted just like a peanut butter sandwich. One of my talented cousins created it!!
I hope everyone of you that is a Mom has a wonderful Mother's Day tomorrow!!

We make buckets for our kiddos at the end of the year as well. Love the tie-dye shirts you made! What a fun end of the year you have planned!

Hi Sara,
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog through New Teacher Blog Tuesday. I'm your newest follower! I am also a "runner" but I haven't had the confidence to pull off a half yet. Maybe this November... I'm looking forward to reading your posts and sharing ideas.
